Distribution:
The species is widespread throughout Europe and European Russia.
Habitat:
Aquatic stages of Sericostoma personatum live in springs,
trickles, rivulets, small rivers and occasionally in lakes (Botosaneanu
& Malicky 1978, Pitsch 1993, Neu 2003, Wallace et al. 2003).
The larvae burrow into the sediment during the day and come out
at night to feed (Waringer & Graf 1997, Dobson et al. 2000).
The species does not occur in organic polluted water.
Nutrition:
Larvae are shredders (Graf et al. 2002).
Adults:
Adults are on the wing from June to August (Waringer & Graf
1997).
