Fig.
1: Percentage per country of the total number of species covered by
the key. |
|
The
area covered by the key extends from the British Islands in the West
to Central Europe, spanning the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, the
Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia,
Hungary and Poland (highlighted in a yellow or reddish colour). It
can be assumed that a high number of the species included may also
overlap with the Trichoptera fauna of adjacent areas in Northern France
and Northern Italy.
The
key enables the identification of 96–100 % of all Trichoptera
species known from the British Isles and the Netherlands, 91–95
% of the species known from the Czech Republic and Denmark, 86–90
% of those species known from Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia
and Hungary, 81–85 % of the species known from Croatia and
Poland and finally 76–80 % of the species known from Switzerland
(shown in figure 1). Species of the genera Hydroptila and
Oxyethira (Hydroptilidae) are not included in this calculation.

2: Percentage per country of the total number of species included
in the key. |
|
|
Most
of the 280 species included in this key are common in Austria, the
Czech Republic, Germany and Poland (between 80 and 100 percent). Between
60 and 79 percent can be found in Great Britain, Belgium, Luxembourg,
Slovenia, Slovakia and Hungary, 40–59 percent in Ireland, Denmark,
the Netherlands, Switzerland and Croatia, and 27 percent in Northern
Ireland (shown in figure 2). Species of the genera Hydroptila
and Oxyethira (Hydroptilidae) are not included in this calculation. |
