1. Why are the eutaxa products so expensive?

Actually, the price of a eutaxa product is higher than the price of most identification literature. However, it must be kept in mind that the CD does not only include identification keys, but also a complete reference collection. To establish a collection of similar extent, the user has to spend a lot of time on sampling and subsequently on preparing, storing and maintaining the collection. This requires a higher financial investment. In addition, the collection includes numerous rare species, which are very difficult to find and only known to a few specialists up to now. The eutaxa software allows you to upgrade the reference collection periodically. Since the updates are included in the price, the customer acquires a relatively cheap product, soon offsetting any additional costs.

2. Is it possible to download images?

The software works exclusively with a copy protection key that prevents downloading of images. When trying to copy or to print one of the images, an error message appears on the screen.

3. Why are there no images in the Query Key sub-application?

The multicriterial key was programmed to offer a versatile application to specialists, used to aggregate groups of species by the presence or absence of morphological criteria, to limit the range or species or to identify fragmentary material. Unlike the Dichotomic Key, it is less appropriate for precise determinations and should not be used to identify species more rapidly (it therefore contains no images, but requires sufficient knowledge about the morphology of the organism group). Images of species can be viewed and compared in the Gallery sub-application (reference collection), after transferring the results of the last Query Key calculation.

4. Is it possible to install the software on a server system?

5. Why are only images of one species displayed when reaching the final systematic level in the D-Key card?

If the text field "Systematic Level" on the D-Key card contains more than one species (because a further differentiation is not possible) then images and descriptions of only one of these species can be queried on the Species Profile and Species Description cards. To query images and/or data of all of these species, switch to the Gallery or Ecology sub-applications and select the desired names.

6. Can the software be installed on Windows Vista?

Before installing the Eutaxa software on Windows Vista you have to download the latest version of the Wibu Key driver. Move to the Wibu Systems website on www.wibu.de and enter the path "Download/Software/User" or enable the following link:

Download the WibuKey Runtime-Kit (Win 32) 5.20b from this site and store it on the computer.

To install the Eutaxa software insert the product-CD/DVD into the drive and run the setup. After the setup has finished restart your PC. Afterwards search for the downloaded Wibu Key file WkRuntime.exe and start the installation with a double-click. During the setup the program may inform you that some files have to be overwritten. Confirm this process always with "Yes/OK". After the setup has finished connect the Wibu Key to a USB port on the machine. If no dialog field opens, indicating the installation of the Wibu Key driver (as done in former versions of the Windows operating systems) then the setup has been completed and you may enter the program. If the program does not work properly, restart your PC once again.
